Question:

How to keep a black car black?

Black cars look great when new and shiny but no matter what you do they all have a tendency over the years to turn into another color no one has yet named so I'll call it oxide black.

Its ugly and the more you wax it the worse it gets.

I would like to know is there a way of stopping this from happening to new paint?

Also is waxing the car part of the problem?

  1. Don't put wax on a black car if you want to keep it black.

Use an acrylic conditioner on your cars paint and it will keep that show room look.

Rubbing wax on your car will wear down the finish and leave your paint looking dull.

  2. Waxing might be part of the problem if you are using the wrong product. Alot of waxes are "cleaner waxes". this means that they have a polishing abraisve in the paint which removes tiny layers of paint to leave a smooth surface. If your paint is already in good shape you don't need a cleaner wax.If you use it too often, yes you will damage the paint with cleaner wax.

If your car is new, get yourself a pure carnuba( like P21S, or Meguair's High tech Yellow)  or synthetic polymer wax.  You can wax it as much as you want without doing any damage and if you keep a good coat of wax on there, it will protect the paint from the oxidation you are talking about.

  3. Nothing looks better on a black car than VaporWax acrylic paint conditioner.

Its a clear liquid that leaves a hard mirror like shine that lasts for months.

  4. Thats not a problem if you use an acrylic paint conditioner on your car. Wax will dull it but you got to protect it with something and Acrylic conditioners are the way to go for acrylic paint.
