How to keep a cat from sneaking out the door when going in or out it?

I have a 3 month old kitten and because he is strictly in doors I had his front paws declawed. He keeps trying harder and harder to sneak out and he's really fast. Is there something I can do to discourage this?

  1. Try discouraging him from going close to the front door. Putting something that smells really bad(like orange peels. The majority of felines hate oranges.) to him near it. Maybe put some tin foil on the floor. Cats hate the noise.

  2. have a spray water bottle handy, it works wonders...Just spray him when he tries. I always put my foot out in front of mine, but cats are quick.....But the water bottle works wonders, just a squirt.

  3. You could try a water gun or spray bottle.. Cats hate water...

  4. I would not use a water gun or spray bottle because you do not want to make your kitty feel like water is a punishment and he will hate the sight of water. I agree with putting stinky items by door. Also, I saw that some pet stores have something you can spray around furniture and stuff to keep animals off of it. Perhaps trying some of that around the door would help. Sometimes sprinkling pepper on bottom of door may work too.

  5. WHY WOULD YOU HAVE YOUR CAT DECLAWED???? BAD!  Defenseless now!

spray the kitten with water each time it gets close to the door.

  6. when I moved into a house with a garage, my kitties wanted to get in there badly.  I hid in there, and when they started to show interest, I made loud scary noises.  They very quickly stopped wanting to go in there.

You could let it escape when it is raining.. that will put a stop to it right quick - hopefully.
