Question:

How to keep baby's bottle cold at night?

For the first time I live in a house where all the bedrooms are upstairs and at 2 am the kitchen(and fridge!) seem miles away when I need to grab a bottle for the baby and warm it up. I want to make @ least 2 bottles in advance and bring them upstairs with me at bedtime so I don't have to go downstairs at 2am... but how do i keep the bottles cold and then warm them when I am nowhere near the kitchen? Do the baby bottle cooler/warmers actually work? And do they work with the playtex drop-ins bottles?

  1. I had the same problem, just put the bottles in a lunch box or small cooler and put in ice packs, just don't forget to put them back in the freezer when you come downstairs in the morning so they will be frozen again for the next night :)

  2. LOL. I think you actually answered your own question.

  3. get a small cooler and keep it near. you can get those gel packs that keep things cold for hours. with the platex disposables you can just go into the bathroom and stick it hot water for a few minutes.

  4. what I do if I will need a bottle later because I wont want to breastfeed where I am going (daughters kindergarten graduation) is put very hot water in the bottle before you take it up and then take the formula with you. Don't bother mixing it until baby is hungry. That way there is no warming. It will either be still warm when you need it or be room temp which is ok for baby. Even if you want. Wrap the bottles in towels. they will keep the heat longer if they are being insulated.

  5. I suggest leaving the bottles in the fridge until you get ready to go to bed.  This way they're still cold.  Then right before bed, take them out and place them on your night stand.  Hopefully by the time you need them in the middle of the night they will be room temperature.

  6. we use a first years warmer and yes they work with the drop-in ..they steam for less time, you could probably keep a cooler next to the bed with a bunch of ice packs in then to keep the bottles cold and set your steamer up for when the baby wakes and before you go back to bed set the steamer up again so your ready for the next feeding ..hope it works for you..

  7. Well I dont know if this will be of any use to you, but maybe you can try giving your baby room temp. bottles. That will save the warming and cooling,...my son has always taken his bottles room temp.

So what I do is have my bottles on the side of my bed with the amount of water in them already and when he starts fussing I put the scoops in and shake it up.

It does take about 60 seconds LOL but it's very convenient. :)

  8. I have a friend that has this problem and she bought a little fridge to put in her room to put the bottles in and also kept some bottles of water for mom. When she needed to warm them, she used a bottle warmer.  When my son was born, we decided that we would offer his bottles at room temperature and he took to that really well so I didn't have this issue.

  9. What I did was keep the following in the upstairs bathroom (so I could turn on a light to prep things without waking the baby):

2 bottles with the right amount of water in each one

Formula dispenser with 2 "servings" of formula ready to go

    Bottle warmer

As soon as I heard my daughter cry I'd race to the bathroom (it's amazing how quickly you can move when you're that tired!), dump the pre-measured formula in the bottle, give it a shake, put it in the bottle warmer, press on (takes less than 30 seconds) and while it's warming go to my daughter.  The bottle would be nice and warm in just a couple minutes (yes, they do work).

It sounds like a few extra steps but it really doesn't take all that long.

    Hope this helps!

  10. Have a lunch box or bottle holder thing with an ice gel thingy in it to keep it cold.

If you really want, put a mini fridge in  your room.

Or just see it as exercise going down stairs.

Or, I just thought of this...Have the 2 bottles ready with the amount of water and then when you need it, just put in the scoop amounts and there should be no need for heating or cooling.
