How to keep birds off your figs?

  1. Stop paying them.


  2. Nets or scare tactics.  You could put up a net that keeps your tree covered up so the birds can't get to the figs.  Not exactly a great idea.  Our fig tree is pretty large and putting up a net alone would be a big deal.  Buying the net would be hard too.

    Scaring the birds off might work some.  I have seen people hang pie plates from strings.  The wind blows those around and startles the birds.  However, they get used to this kind of stuff.  You usually have to move those plates around on a regular basis.  I have seen some advertisements for a water deterant system.  Basically, it has a motion sensor and when it senses motion it fires a blast of water.  I do not know how small of a creature it will work for.  The birds in the fig trees are probably pretty small.  Worth looking into though.

  3. Shiny things. Hang aluminum pie plates all over it. They won't come near it.
