we're using a 30 gallon water trough. Changing the water daily doesn't keep the algae from forming. What to do?

  1. algae's not really bad for them. but what you can do is get a trough system that has a constent flow. it's more expensive but moving water might take the algae forming down.

i've seen plenty of cattle and horses drink out of algae ridden  troughs and it's never hurt them.

  2. Cattle are much tougher than us humans

They can handle muddy water and algae.

    Don't worry about it

    :)

  3. Algea, in and of itself, is not harmful in any way to cattle. If you're battling it though, try scrubbing the tank before refilling. By leaving remnants of the algae behind, you provide a 'seed' for the algae to grow back faster. I've also used bleach to get stubborn algae that is resistant to scrubbing but this requires a lot of rinsing because the bleach residue would be far more harmful than the algae you're cleaning.

  4. Algae in water will not hurt cattle.  Muddy water will not hurt cattle.  Water from a mud puddle with manure and etc. in it will not hurt cattle.
