Question:

How to keep eyes from needing glasses?

Hey everyone,

I just got the PRK Laser eye surgery and I found out that my eyes can still deteriorate as I get older like any other person.

My question is how do I take care of my eyes so that I don't need glasses for as long as possible?

Does the popular warning "don't read in the dark" or "don't sit too close to the computer" still hold true?

Thanks!!!

  1. You might be getting thousends of LONG answers for this question... but I'll make it simple =)

Congrats on your laser eye surgery... but i have a qestion for you.... did it hert?... or was it numbed somehow?

Carrots !!! Raw would be perfect...

    Cucumber !!! Raw too

    AND MOST IMPORTANTLY Broccoli's =D

The reading in the dark is 100% wrong

Sitting in front of the computer is 100% True

However, if you stay healthy.... nothing will get to you

Drink LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOT AND LOTS AND LOTS OF ..W.A.T.E.R.. <--- perfect for any part of your body =)

  2. Ha, ha! Your mom told you not to read in the dark because she wanted you to go to bed! :)

Wearing hard contacts actually can stop your eyes from deteriorating! Talk to your optometrist about it. I wanted to do hard contacts really bad for that reason, but they just bothered my eyes too much :(

  3. You should also know that surgery and the ortho-k lenses only affect your cornea (outside of your eye).  They don't affect your lens (inside of your eye) at all, so your vision will still change as you get older.  The lens allows us to change our focus, like when we are looking far away and then look at something close.   Everyone starts to lose this ability to accomodate as he or she gets older, so you may still need to get reading glasses at some point.

  4. Nothing will make your eyes better or worse, other than whatever is in your genes. Eating carrots, reading in the dark, and even wearing the wrong prescription will not affect you in the slightest (but you may get some nasty headaches from eye strain).

But, if you are looking to wear contacts that shape your eyes, inquire about ortho-k lenses. They are quite pricey, but the will shape your eye (or keep your eye the right shape) to keep your 20/20 vision. You put them in before bed and take them out in the morning.
