  1. I tell you the ways to keep roses:

    1) Remove the outside guard petals. These rugged outer petals were left on to protect your roses during shipment.

    2) Cut 1 inch off the stems and remove leaves that fall below the water line.

    3) Fill vase with water and add 1 packet of flower food.

    4) Re-cut stems, change water and add second packet of flower food on day 3.

    5) For the longest life, keep your roses away from direct sunlight, heat and drafts.

  2. There was a lady I once knew that used to dry them into potpourri by hanging them upside down from the ceiling until they dried usually above the wood stove.  Once they were dry she would shake the petals into the container she was using(usually a woven basket with a lid) and it smells really pretty.  I did that will all the flowers that i got when I was in the hospital after having my daughter.  That way they are really easy to store and they will always remind you who they came from when you look at them.

  3. It depends on the flower.

Roses can be dried by hanging them upside down in a cool dry spot away from sunlight or you can just stand them in a vase without water and let them dry.  The hanging process avoids the head ( bloom ) of the rose bending over, as they sometimes do, in the drying process in the vase.

Carnations can also be dried standing in a vase with no water.

Daisies, Pansies and other flat blooms can be pressed between a couple layers of paper towel.  Get a couple of heavy books. Put a couple layers on paper towel on the first book.   Lay out your flowers on the paper towel. Put a couple more layers of paper towel and the second book on top.  Leave them undisturbed for at least two weeks.

Blooms like Mums, which are dense, are difficult to dry.
