Question:

How to keep from transferring viruses from old to new laptop?

I've just got a new laptop and want to transfer all my stuff from the old laptop over to the new one. I'm probably going to install avast or avg antivirus first on the new one. The old laptop has a couple of quarantined viruses (one is a trojan, I think) on it. Will the avast/avg antivirus keep the viruses on the old laptop from getting on the new one when I transfer all my stuff over? What is the best way to prevent the viruses from coming over? Or how do I find the items who are infected and delete them? Thanks!

  1. You should be fine transfering your stuff over. To be safe you could put the stuff your tranfering on a dvd or USB stick and before you transfer stuff off onto new laptop do a virus scan on that drive.

  2. INSTALL  a good antivirus program to ur new laptop and old one

  3. you could run a virus scan on your old laptop, that would find the files infected with the virus and you could delete the files.

or you could get someone that you know who is good with computers and they could reset your laptop back to the last safe save. A safe save is something that computers do automatically every month they save all of your files and settings if you have had the virus for more than a month don't worry because it does not save viruses.

  4. transfer your file first to a flash disk and scan it for viruses. clean it up before copying it to your new laptop.
