  1. Jen H is right.  Soak your rag in a MILD solution of water and bleach.  It will kill the germs and the bacteria that causes it to stink.

  2. it goes manky because foodstuff is left in it to rot.  leaving it soaking in bleach solution will corrode the cloth in short order.

wash it WELL every night using whatever - vinegar, bleach, even plain dish soap-  but don't use fabric softener - fabric softener reduces the cloths' ability to absorb water.  ever notice how towels freshly wash with softener kinda skid over your skin instead of sucking up the water?  that's why.

after it's done and rinsed well, hang it up over the faucet or other place it'll air well (ie, not over the cabinet door or sink divider) and let it dry out overnight.

  3. Sunshine also works well to keep bacteria at bay. When I can, I dry mine on a deck railing.

  4. When you are finished using them - soak in a bucket of hot water and detergent for about one hour.  then rinse them out and hang them to dry.

    that's what I do.

  5. I make sure to lay them out flat when I am done.  I also try to make sure that if I have one that is really wet I make sure that it doesn't touch any others.

  6. clorox

  7. At the end of the day wash it first and rinse it in fabric softener hang up to dry ,if you have not the time to do that soak it in luke warm warm with  fabric  softener and leave to steep over night your cloth will be fresh and your kitchen will smell nice too.

  8. We keep a small plastic container with a mild bleach-and-water solution that we keep beside the sink. When done with the kitchen rag, rinse it well under hot water and then place in the bleach solution until you need it again. Before use, rinse well again.
