With my stratocaster i can't do dives without significantly detuning my guitar. any suggestions or locking devices built for this problem? I got about a $150 budget.

  1. your basically running into the one major problem with strat trems. they were not designed to do insane dives. but what can help is making sure your nut is cut right, so that strings do not bind. if not you can upgrade to a nut with rollers that help keep your guitar in tune. even if you were to completely overhaul the guitar it will never be as solid as a well maintained floyd rose.

  2. Hi!  On my Stratocasters, I put a wedge (just a couple of felt pads) in between the tremolo block and the body (backside), and tightened the springs down all the way. I don't lift the bar during whammy maneuvers (only depress), so this works for me (bonus: guitar stays in tune better, plus doesn't go out of tune if you break a string!).  Periodically adding a drop of light lubricant to each groove of the nut is also helpful; however, a better choice is an upgraded nut like the LSR Rollerball.  Hope this helps.  Best regards, Dana

  3. nothing will really do a great job, your just going to have to tune it alot...
