How to keep my apartment clean with 6 guys!?

I currently have lived in 2 different apartments with 3 other friends each time. Each time the apartment became a mess within weeks of moving in. I use to clean like mad but ive grown tired of taking care of others messes and telling them to clean up, which at best created only a temporary solution. we've tried cleaning schedules and what not but it never goes through for too long. Now this year soon I will be moving in a 6 bedroom apartment with 5 other guys. I fear this place will become even more grotesque than ever. I need some advice on some effective reasonable cleaning system that could keep the place at least decent. Key word being reasonable. Trust me we've tried the "you get kicked in the nuts if you dont do your chores" method...didnt work.

seriously just get each guy to pitch in about 10 bucks each and hire someone to come in for a few hours each week and just do the important stuff like the bathrooms and dishes and trash.  Then everyone is only responsible for there own stuff like dirty clothes and bedrooms.

It sounds like your a clean freak when no one else cares. maybe you could get the guys to pitch in on a cleaning lady. judging from your name you must be in a frat house, there are strippers you can hire to clean your house naked. maybe that would entice the other guys to pitch in n it. what ever you do, don't get frustrated and do it all yourself, the guys will take advantage of you and begin to expect it from you.

When living in that type of environment "rules" need to be discussed and enforced... The cleaning shouldn't be left up to one person EVERYONE needs to pitch in and help keep the place neat/tidy.... I would encourage maybe hiring someone to keep the main areas of the house tidy... Livingroom, bathroom(s) and kitchen.  The bedrooms should be maintained by the occupants.  If need be use paper plates and disposible cutlery so that dishes don't stack up.  Everyone needs to act like adults and be resposible for their own messes... Though, that probably won't happen much....

The only thing that you can do is have the cleaning supplies handy and at the ready that way EVERYONE knows how to use them and where they are- In particular in the KITCHEN/BATHROOM... Also, just remember girlfriends/moms don't like sitting in filth... So, cleaning up after yourselves will score "points" with the ladies...
