my house has 2 stories, the 1st floor it's always nice and cold, but the problem it's the 2nd floor, it gets really hot up there, when the A/C turns on it cools down a little bit, but as soon as it turns off it gets hot again!

the master bedroom it's the worst one it gets hot in the morning because the sun hits it in the morning, and doesn't cool down! not even with the A/C since it has a high ceiling the rest of the rooms get hot in the afternoon when the sun it's on the other side but those cool down with the A/C

so.. What can I do to keep it cool up there!?!?!

  1. Woww I understan that!!!!!!!!!!!!, my english teacher haves to know it :P.

    Saludosss :P

  2. 1.  increase the insulation in the attic

    2.  put a power ventilator in the attic

    3.  Heavy curtains, it appears you didn't use the low e windows.

    4.  have some one come out and do an infra red scan.

  3. Exists a covering with insulating thermal. It is applied on the roof like a paint and lowers the temperature of your house several degrees.

This one is the best solution.

Also you save energy because your air conditioning works less.

You can ask for it in a shop as like Home Depot.

    I hope help you.

  4. This is very common with the newer high ceilings and open designs. The heat all goes upstairs.

Since you said it warms upstairs when the a/c cycles off and I expect the thermostat is downstairs. The first and easiest solution is to run the fan on constant fan ("On" setting instead of "auto") and that will circulate the cooler downstairs air to the upstairs.

But in most cases, since heat rises, the solutions are not good or many. Usually the upstairs is not ducted as well because in heat you don't need the vents for the same reason that heat rises.

I most often see people simply add a window a/c unit to suppliment the central for an upstairs bedroom like that.

Since  you mentioned sun, you might also consider outdoor blinds or shading to keep the heat off the house. I have read those alone can lower temps by 3-5 degrees.

    Good Luck
