Question:

How to keep people from jumping my fence?

We live in a nice neighborhood unfortunately near a Section 8 development. We've been here about 3 months and have been fighting these hoodlums from hopping our fence the entire time. They have kicked our fence down, along with the neighbor's fencing. If you confront them, they curse at you and ignore and keep going through our yard! A couple of weeks ago, my son's 4 wheeler was stolen from our shed...

Moving is not a possibility so I'm hoping some of you may have some good, creative ideas?

Electric fence would be easy to dismantle.

I have dogs, so I can't do nails on the railing because one's a great dane and he'd cut his paws. (The dogs keep them away but I don't leave them out there alone as I don't know if the jerks will poison them).

Barbed wire is apparently illegal unless it's at minimum 7ft up-which wouldn't do any good.

Axle grease wouldn't deter them, we ran barbed wire along the fence while we were rebuilding it and the punks used their jackets as a buffer to squeeze..

  1. wow - i would put a  cam up  or keep the dogs out and put there water by the  house they cant get to it  or get dogs that will bite ( so wrong by u need to keep them out ) get lights that trun on   - what i would do is put a cam up and find out what time they come and let the dogs out - and sit out there by the way people who have sec 8 are not all like this

  2. That's a toughie!  I've got nothing,.

  3. Im glad I live in Texas. Here you could shoot their butts for being on your property.

    1. Get a good dog like a German Shepherd. They are very territorial and will protect whats theirs. Put up a few Beware of dog signs so they can be seen plainly. Then sit back and watch.

  4. I say you shoot all of them off of your property everytime you catch them. They'll eventually learn after limping home a few times, the b******s.

Ooh yeah! No Trespassing signs are a good idea!

  5. shot them as they jump over the fence

  6. Fortunately we don't have that problem living in the country. It does seem like the law enforcement would do something about this. Did you report the four wheeler stolen? It sounds like what ever you would do could cause even more violation to your property. Is there one particular area they come thru? Do you live close to any farmers where you could get some cow manure and spread it along the fence line.....wet it down and let them jump into it.  Chicken manure would be even better. WE country folks have a lot of ideals.

  7. mount a metal pipe along the top of the fence, take a normal  extension cord, cut off the female end, splice it open, take the black wire and clamp it to the pipe, plug the extension cord into one of your wall outlets, you wont have anymore trouble with them neighborhood kids,

  8. Oh my goodness, I am terribly sorry. but here's what I'd do.

    1. Set up and alarm system. I know it'll be a little costy, but it's better than getting robbed.

    2. make barb wired fence, then a very tall wood fence, another barb wired, and on more wood.

    3. Set up Life like scare crow (but only in the night) and a fan (can be activated from inside) that can move the S.C. so it looks like it's moving.

    4. Just turn on the lights

    5. Put up a NO TRESS-PASSING sign

    6. Set up a bunch of rat traps (hidden) at night though

    7. Set up either a small, hidden camera, or a big glow in the dark one so they can see it and be intimidated

    8. put poision ivy bushes

    9. wet some chicken or cow manure

These are individual ideas, but can be combined

Once again, I'm terribly sorry, and I hope that they wont do any harm to you and your family.

I also live in the country, so this kind of stuff never happens, if only it was like that everywhere.

  9. Go out there with a Axe or something and confront them, bet  they won't be so brave then.

Go out there with your dogs on a leash and tell them you will let them loose on them if they don't get the h**l out.

I would say to trap your yard but I would hate for your poor dogs to fall prey to them. I really don't know what to tell you other than that and to form an alliance with your neighbors that you all watch over each others places, and call cops as soon as they appear.

unfortunately with animal and idk about children you can't really do anything to prevent it while your gone.

But you can go out there witha gun or something while they're there and fire it once and intentionally miss the first time, and tell them the next is going inside their body.

I'm so sorry this is happening,

another thing I would do is call the police and let them know its occurring, they may be able to help you keep watch a little.

  10. In Glendale I have the same problem with an apartment owner that gets in ex-cons for bjs, a little extra income & as his toys to play people & take the fall when the cops come around. Of course not all that live there are bad but the little crimals coming over the fence are the ones you are dealing with. Post your yard & report it to the PD every time someone trespasses, etc. Document it all. Call the PD Chief, Watch Commander or COPPS unit if they have one. If they don't respond contact your City Council members.

If you have some time to spare get involved with your local PD or city & they probably will give you & your neighborhood a little more attention. Get to know your neighbors & try to get a good "neighborhood watch" going. Try to get to know the "good" tenants at the section 8 complex. Sometimes it helps if you have people that may recognize the bad guys, know their names & locations so the bad guys go to a safer place for them. Also it helps you from hating all of your neighbors when most don't deserve that.

I called out the owner of the complex & let him know some personal (not bad) things I know about him so he knows I have contacts & information he didn't share with me so I may also know facts that could be used against him. I blamed him for bringing these dopers & thieves to the neighborhood & told him that HE needs to get them to leave me alone or we have begun a battle that I will fight with everything I have & I will win. He still played stupid but things calmed down.

Cameras & alarms are good ideas but make sure the alarm company doesn't rip you off as well. Sometimes one guy pays $100 for the same thing his neighbor pays $1000 for. Alarm salesmen are like used car salesmen so bargain them down then tell them you don't think the price is good enough. When you have checked references, etc of at least 3 companies with equal quotes call back the best company & deal some more. Make sure they respect your pets safety as well. Lojack your vehicles, tools, computers, etc. Put photos, value, serial numbers of everything in a safe place away from the property.  Mark your name or phone number on items. Insure what you can.

I really wish we could just shoot them too but for the most part it doesn't work that way here in the real world. The bad guys need to think you are perfectly willing to help them meet their maker. If you have a gun please make sure you take classes & keep it safe. Take care & good luck.

  11. Get a large dog and chain him out there, with a dog house of course,or a bb gun and shoot the useless Pisces of S**t,once they're on your property, take it into your own hands,or booby trap the yard, cover holes up with something light so the fucs will fall in and break there ankles. If you put no trespassing signs up the police have to do something.

  12. Wireless security cameras are pretty cheap now, and most bad guys would rather not take the chance of being caught on tape for trespassing. Be sure to place the camera high enough, or camouflaged so the morons cant see it. No trespassing signs are of limited value because most of these ******* can't read. BTW, once they are on your property, you have the legal right to protect you and your family with deadly force. But that could bring serious problems, and contrary to the movies, can be very traumatic for the shooter. Another effective method is to plant cactus or rose bushes. If you live where they grow well, blackberry vines are an awesome barrier to overcome.

  13. Barbed wire on top of your fence may be regulated by law but, barbed wire inside of your fence is a different thing.

There is a technique of stringing barbed wire to make what is called "tanglefoot."

    "Tangle-Foot Wire

Barbed wire or tape may be used in appropriate situations to construct a tangle-foot obstruction either outside a single perimeter fence or in the area between double fences to provide an additional deterrent to intruders. The wire or tape should be supported on short metal or wooden pickets spaced at irregular intervals of 3 to 10 feet and at heights between 6 and 12 inches. The wire or tape should be crisscrossed to provide a more effective obstacle. The space and materials available govern the depth of the field."

A crisscross of barbed wire about knee high inside your fence hidden in taller plants should be a deterrent.  If I were you, and I was having the kinds of problems that you are having, I would rig this up.

Go buy a roll of stiff wire.  Fasten it to the INSIDE of your fence posts about knee high with heavy wire staples that you pound in with a hammer assuming that your posts are made of wood.  Put metal fence posts into the ground about ten feet inside of your fence in a line like an inner perimeter.  Get a roll of four foot wire fencing and fasten to the posts making an inner fence.  Now, between the two fences, string barbed wire knee high in a crisscross diamond configuration.  Make it so that a person cannot take more than one step without having to step over a wire.

Just let the grass and weeds grow in between the fences.  If it becomes a problem, just spray it with weed killer.

Raise a pirate flag in the backyard so that your yard is easy to identify when word gets around about which yard to avoid.  If you plant tall thorny shrubs inside your fence, when they grow up, you can take down your tanglefoot.  Just be sure to plant them thick enough.  The Common Hawthorn is extensively used in Europe as a hedge plant.

  14. Colley if you put signs around your fence saying beware of dogs, and turn your dogs loose outside at night.  I might even look at getting German Shepard they make good watch dog, and will let you know if any ones comes around.. (Day two)  I have decided now dogs is your only option and keep outside lights off so dogs can do there job and not get hit with rock throwing.  Go to animal control and adopt two big German Shepard dogs.  Go to nursery and purchase Barberry bush.

    Good Luck

  15. What if you combined the manure idea with the automated sprinklers.  Set it up to spray them with liquid manure.  Could you plant some bushes with nasty thorns just inside the fence?  That might persuade them to go through someone else's yard.  You could plant poison ivy between the bushes.

  16. easy, trip wire and a hand grenade, lol they will more than likely spoof any attempt except maybe the night vision security camera, and probably retaliate for having trespass charges

pressed, but you gotta do something, i would give adt a call

  17. wow d**n i'd combine everyones ideas...but d**n that friggin sucks man! what is section 8? im from canada so we dont have that. what about like a really strong fence...not some chain fence but like a solid would or iron fence or something??? put a camera out so you can get it on camera, no trepsspassing signs and then take the film to the cops! get a gun a shoot the little b******s! once a few of them are down, the others will learn
