  1. im afraid of snakes too!

  2. Snakes do come when they find tall grass. I live in Miami, and with rain falling every day, my grass was at it's highest point was about 8 inches tall within two weeks. My dad cut it about a week ago. Earlier this week, I found a baby snake in my pool, and just pulled it out with the pool net. My mom is deathly afraid of snakes, and has recently claimed to see one about 2 inches in diameter and 4 feet long. However, it scrambled at the sight of her. They're more afraid of you than you are of it, so don't stress over it. That snake is probably long gone. It's probably a very gentle, common breed and isn't interested in harming anyone, just in finding shelter and food. Just keep your grass cut and make sure you don't have any small rodents in your yard. And you can avoid that by putting out trash in the can and closing the can, so they can't easily enter. You can avoid them getting into pool by getting a fine-mesh pool fence. It'll also keep your kids from falling in, so if it's a real concern, I'd say that that'd be a good investment. As for the yorkie, keep an eye on your dog. Your dog has the drive to protect you from it, no matter the size. It'll get near to investigate, and it may get itself bitten. However, common snake bites are not fatal because of lack of venom. I don't know the common snakes in louisiana, but the garden snakes here are black with a yellow ring around their neck. They won't do anything. Snakes with bright colors are a concern, on the other hand, and you should notify your neighbors to be careful, and if you do see it again, contact animal control and tell them where it's last known whereabouts were so that they can attempt to find it and capture it for the well-being of the community.

Hope I was able to help!

  3. Keep the pool chemicals current - they will not like the taste of it and should stay away from the pool.  Keep all the bushes, etc, near the pool trimmed way back.  Mow the grass at least once a week to keep it short.  They should not like to wander around in the open.

    Good luck.
