Question:

How to keep the door closed without a lock?

I hate when people come in my room without knocking when I'm in the middle of dressing (my brother does this without even knocking - and it's the most unsettling feeling ever). Privacy is very important to me, but my parents do not think a lock for my room is necessary - yet when I ask them to knock before entering, they just come right in. I need to find a way to keep the door closed without having to install a lock.. is there any way? Your advice is greatly appreciated!

  1. Scream loudly as if you were in a horror movie any time anyone walks in without knocking. Shriek "You terrified me, HOW DARE YOU!" If you're not fully dressed, cover yourself with something and scream even louder.

    Eventually they'll get the idea.

The reason they don't want a lock on your door is that they want to make sure you're not doing something they don't approve of.

  2. What you put in front of your door to block it does not necessarily have to be heavy. All you need to do is place a chair in front of your door that is at an angle. The head of the chair should be proped under the door k**b and the hind legs of the chair should be firmly planted on the ground. It does not have to be that heavy but it should be sturdy. And not so light that someone could push forcefully on your door and dislodge the chair.

  3. Use a chair, but put the back rest to the door. Lean the top of the chair head rest under the handle, and when the door is opened it will push up into the bottom of the handle and stop the door from opening.

  4. jam the door.

  5. Sorry cant think of anything to guarantee privacy other than getting dressed in the locked bathroom? and yes brothers can be a pain.

  6. Look in the hardware section or a hardware store.  They make these rubber wedge shaped door stoppers.

When someone goes to enter the room..it jams the door

Have one of your friends come over and find where it works best on the bottom of your door.  Sometimes it closer to the hinge..sometimes near the door opening. It will work better if you have hardwood floors.

When I was a teen, I had a small dresser, I scooted in front of my door when I wanted to be alone. This is too much hassle ..just while you dress.

Moreover, you need a family tribal meeting and put your foot down about your privacy.   Tell them the first person who opens the closed door, gets a blast of spray paint in the face LOL

  7. put something heavy in front of the door, like a chair or something so that when someone tries to get it is a lot harder. make sure its heavy, but not so heavy that you cant move it.
