Question:

How to keep veggies fresh in the fridge?

Every time I buy fresh veggies or fruit and keep them in the bottom drawer of the fridge (the 'crisper') they don't last more than a week without getting mouldy. I'm not sure what the problem is. The temperature setting is the coldest and I keep a box of baking soda in the fridge to keep it fresh also. I would appreciate some tips on how to keep veggies fresher. Thanks.

  1. In an air tight container.  Also put dry paper towels in with the veggies to pull the mistier away from them.  This will keep them from decomposing.  Change the paper towels if you are not using them all at once.  Lettuce keeps up to a week like this

  2. well i keep my lettuce wrapped in tinfoil and that keeps it very crisp.

  3. dont buy so much at one time

  4. air tight container.

  5. Buy Debbie Meyer's Green Bags. I bought some recently and I find they actualy keep things fresher longer. I'm sure you've heard of them. my bananas have been sitting on the counter for about 4 days now and are still looking good!

  6. A week is a long time for most refrigerated produce. The baking soda deals with odours and not with freshness of produce. Your fridge probably needs a good cleaning because the spores from that other life form are messing with any new produce.
