What will happen if you put a deep colony of bacteria into ice water, will they die, reproduce slowly or cut portion in half? I've always wondered this, anyone know.

  1. they will be momentarily "frozen". When the water begins to thaw the bacteria will begin it's normal reproduction.

  2. the cold will not kill the bacteria, they will just stop multiply and go to sleep.

temp above 160F will kill the bacteria.

  3. No. Once the ice thaws they will keep breeding!

  4. Ice water is 0 degree Celsius. Bacteria are not killed or frozen at this temperature. They simply slow down a bit, and resume their growth as soon as it is warmer.
