How to kill black ants?

My husband and I just found out that we have black ants in our house. My question is how do we get rid of them safely with kids and animals in the house. They are just in the kitchen as of now. Please help I hate ants!!!

You could try boric acid powder - squirt it in the corners and between crevises (places they have to walk through to get into your rooms) with a straw.  It's not toxic (they use it in eyewash), and there are no noxious fumes, and it works as well as any insecticide without endangering anyone else (except cockroaches)

i would say to use raid or some kind of roach killer... the only thing would be to close off the kitchen from the babies and pets for a day or two and then every thing should be fine..

my family had ants in our kitchen as well, we sprayed in the areas where they were and then kept our small dog out of the room for two days

The easiest, most effective way I've found to get rid of ants is Terro.  It's a concentrated liquid ant poison you can buy in many discount and grocery stores.  You just put a couple of drops in a bottle cap and put several of the caps in where you see the ants.  The ants feed on the Terro, take it back to the nest to feed the others and the Terro kills them all.

Now it takes a couple of days for them to carry enough of the stuff back and you might have to refill your caps but you can put this product well out of the reach of kids and pets, it doesn't stink or leave a residue.

We bought a small container of ...ant repellent -containing 30 grams/litre Sodium Borate & 11 grams/litre BORIC ACID.  ......................

We then poured a few ~~ /Desssert spoons on old saucers and placed them on the kitchen floor and sink top.

After a few hours the ants started drinking/ or eating from the saucers.~~~After 2 or 3 days of application all ants vanished,

(we repeat the same process every summer since at least twice per summer)

caution:---> dont let it get on food stuffs& plates etc in-use)
