How to know if a "Cash for Keys" offer is legitimate?

After month's of trying to sell my home every way possible, the lender foreclosed on it. It didn't sell at auction either, and it was taken back by the lender. A couple days later a letter was left on my door stating that a "Cash for Keys" deal was possible, and that it didn't matter who was living here. The letter was from a real estate agency, whom I contacted the next day. They told me the "bank" will give me $1,500.00 if I move in 2 weeks. How do I really know this will happen? Is it some kind of bribe to get me out as soon as possible? I realize that after 19 years this is no longer my home, and have to leave, but San Diego is so overpriced on rents and my finances went from bad to worse through all of this I am scared to death. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. It is legitimate.  It is cheaper to give you the money than go to court to evict you.
