Question:

How to know if cockroaches are in my electronics or appliances?

I moved into a house rental just a month ago. Four days ago I notice a cockroach and I've seen 1 a night since in the living room. I gave notice and am moving and have NEVER, ever had to deal with cockroaches before. I've read they like to get into electronics and small appliances. None of my appliances were ever unpacked, but they were only in a bag or open box. My tv, vcr/dvd player and laptop I have been using and are in the living room. How do I know if the bugs got into any of them before I move? I will absolutely be ticked if they end up moving with me (I'm moving back to the condo I own, which does not have any pests.).

  1. Use plastic bags to put everything in so it will suffocate them.

Be sure to squeeze all the air out first. Then unpack after about 24 hours.

  2. Keep in mind they dont only go in eletronics, they can be in your couch, your clothes, your mattress anything. they will eat the glue that was used to make the oxes as well so they can be in any of your boxes, not just the opened ones.    i used to babysit some kids and onetime they came in and took there coats off and i seen a roach crawl out of there coat! i was so grossed out and made them keep there coats outside from then on.   i dont mean to gross you out or anything, but yeah, roaches are nasty little things that creep me out!

I've luckily never had to deal with roaches in my home. but i would try to put all your stuff in one room like the day before your going to move and set off a few bug bombs in there, read the bombs to see how long they have to be left, then go in open the windows, let it air out, then pack your stuff in the truck or whatever.   You might even want to do the same thing after you move just in case. Or you could call an pest control place and ask them to do a few preventative treatments. The apartments where we used to live would come spray a little bait stuff in all the apartments every other month.  keep in mind that everything should prolly be washed after using the bug bombs. especially dishes and food related items.  i would also wash all your clothes and bedding.  maybe seperate them and bag them in loads and take them all to a laundry mat so you can wash them all at once.  If the weather is nice, you might want to set your furniture (couch, mattress, etc.) outside to air out for a few hours to air out.

This might all be over kill. but i hate bugs in general, and hate isnt even a strong enough word to explain how i feel about roaches.

  3. well their are usually signs of pests being on your electronics if you see fecis around the boxes when you unpack. little tiny black poo..lol Best bet is to fumigate with a fogger in your condo before you move in.. that way anything that comes in with your stuff will be destroyed..  Cockroaches and ants love electronics , who knows why, but it's safer to just do what i said.. and fumigate before you move back in.

  4. To be really safe-cover all of the appliances that may or may not have been affected with a plastic tarp and bomb them with an aerosol bug can perhaps in a driveway. I once bought a used couch that was infested. I now religiously bomb large items with a vengeance akin only to the fury of a rathful God.

  5. Those nasty little bugs go everywhere!  Recommend you bomb the day before you move.  They'll get in almost anything - paper bags, cardboard boxes.  I lived in the south in an old neighborhood and that was the first time I ever dealt with roaches - the kind like in Florida - 2 inches long and fat, and they'd chase you down the hallways.  Ugh!

After you move, just be vigilant - you might have to bomb there too.
