I used to live in Alabama where our school system never had a soccer team. I did play with a recreational team for three years while I was in elementary school, but when middle school came I had to quit the rec team to concentrate on other sports. But for some reason I have always longed to play school soccer even thought I have only practiced by myself with a soccer ball. I know the rules and the basics like dribbling, passing, and shooting. I even think I am good at them even though I have not been officially taught. I am a good runner and I run long distance and can sprint well. I play hackysack and that has transferred me into being a pretty good juggler with the soccer ball. Of course all of this is my own opinion drawn from watching soccer on tv and reading soccer how-to books. The sad thing is that apart from youth rec teams, I have never been able to train and compare with girls my own age on a competitive level.
Well, recently I moved to Colorado where my high school does have soccer teams. I have started to practicing even more dribbling and passing to rocks and trees since I don't know anyone yet in my new town. I have occasionally gone to the school's soccer field to shoot goals. I really have a heart to learn soccer.
My question: What are some standards to know if I am equipped to try out for the high school soccer team? Include details on dribbling, passing, and shooting and other things that I should be able to do in able to have a fair shot at making it. It may seem crazy that I am trying out after little experience on a team, but take in to account that I am definately an athlete with some natural skills in soccer and running.
