  1. Learn the entirety  of human knowledge,  Study all of human history, anthropology, philosophy, religion, for they are the product of the human mind and and its actions, therefore they portray the human mind.

Sorry, but such a big question gets a big answer.  Truly, where to begin:  I always found philosophy somewhat a wast of time, chasing around in circles.  In 35 years of serious reading, I have found ideas based on Darwin's writings to be the most useful.  They have a firm material base, and build up using the scientific method.  There is such a field as evolutionary psychology.  Also look at modern anthropology.  They look at explaining common features of the human mind as resulting from evolutionary pressures.  A lot of old psychology and sociology aren't as firmly based, but do contain sound ideas that have been winnowed out over the years.  Someone who has written on all of the above, and many more, is Stephen Jay Gould.  His books of collected essays are quite readable, although only a small percentage are on point for your question.  Also try Daniel Dennet (difficult) and some of Dawkin's works.  Good luck!
