How to learn auto cad and how will rate it for a average person to learn?

  1. It depends what you want to do on it. If your designing something simple, and I mean like a plank of wood, it should take like a day, but for more intricate stuff, e.g aeroplanes it takes quite a while.

    A good book is Autocad for dummies. They do one for each version of autocad, depending on what year the program was bought.


  2. If you are a qualified Engineer, Architect, Civil Engineer or draftsman, then with a good teacher, you can learn the basics in a few weeks, and start using it professionally.  However, you will learn "forever".  I have used it since the mid-sixties (on DOS!) and I am STILL learning...

    If, on the other hand, you have no engineering formation, you may learn to play with it, but you will never achieve a proper design.

    AutoCAD is probably the best engineering CAD modelling program, but it WON'T make you an engineer...

    (The drawing of an aeroplane - just a model - took me a few days, but the DESIGN of it - all calculations - took me six months)
