How to light a gas stove (once the gas has been connected after gas has been off for a while?

Gas has been disconnected in the house for a bit due to vacancy. I have restored gas back into the house but the gas stove will not work

Newer gas stoves do not have a pilot light, rather they use and electric starter, which is the clicking noise you hear when starting the burners. When you first hook up the gas, it takes awhile for the gas to move through the stove to the burners, so turn it on until you smell the gas, turn it off for a minute, then try again. If you have a stove with a pilot light, you can usually access it through a panel in the stove, where you wiill also likely find directions on lighting it.

Turn one or more burners on until it smells like gas.  This is bleeding the lines.  It it does have pilot lights the one for the top burners is usually under the stove top which will raise up.  The one for the oven is usually accessed by removing the bottom drawer and the pilot is near the rear of the oven.

Are you a self employed gas engineer..if not check to see that there is a mains gas tap and if so..see that it's switched on.  Is there a gas meter in the house...if so see that it's working properly.   When you try to light the oven...is there a low flame or no flame at all.   How old is the gas oven,if it's an old model..there could be some rust in the pipes.  If you have checked all these and still cant ignite it...call a gas inspector.

If it's the type of gas valve I think you're refferring to turn it to the pilot position. Push in and hold the valve in (still in pilot). Light the pilot either by match or push-button if it has one. With the pilot light, continue holding the valve in for 60 seonds (the thermopile has to warm up). Release the valve and turn it to the on position.
