  1. If you look beneath the rear shock abs, you will see 2 brackets just like you have described. The suspension is set a specific height using the brackets/dogbones, the shorter the links the higher the rear of the suspension and vice versa. Easy to fit and even easier if you use the centre stand, loosen securing bolts that keep the links attached to the suspension, have 1 of your mates take the weight of the rear suspension, made easier also by grabbing the wheel whilst lying chest down on seat facing the tank, wiggle the bolts and out they pop, rest the susp on the ground and refit the new links in the reverse order.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I do use clamps, brackets, grinders, mig welders, Frame Jigs and Body Roller but have never heard of  dogbones.  Sorry.

  3. its all down to the design of the suspention set up,some need to be longer/some shorter...actully ive got a set of lowerd ones here on the bench beside the pc,i fitted them 4 weeks ago, these are 10mm longer than std but drop the bike 40mm....eary as pie to fit but stiffen up the spring when your on,especcially if your a bit on the large side..my mate is and after fitting he holed the rear mudgaurd.

  4. Depending on which link in the suspension you're replacing, it's entirely possible that a longer link (or, as you call it, dogbone) can lower the bike.  Here's what appears to be a pretty decent FAQ on the suspension of this bike:
