Question:

How to lower my alcohol tolerance?

I'm a bit over 5'7" and weigh about 150lbs. I used to drink heavily no more than twice a month and get drunk very easily (light weight). I didn't drink at all for 6 weeks and just gave in two nights ago.

I drank 4 coolers and hardly felt anything at all. I felt it a bit, but not enough to call it a buzz. Six weeks ago I would be buzzing off a bee after two coolers! Why is this, and how can I lower my tolerance?

I really don't like having to drink a lot to feel like I'm under the influence.

  1. Wine coolers are pointless...they're like kool-aid and most people (I know) don't feel anything from them anyway.  So don't judge it by that wine cooler.  The only way to lower your alcohol tolerance is to stop drinking for a long time.  I'm not talking about a week or two, or even a month.  I'd say go a got 6 months without drinking any alcohol and you're on your way to lowering your tolerance.

  2. I have the opposite problem. Get all sloppy after just a few.

  3. drink a little bit at a time. ur tolerance will getbetter. figure out how much it takes to make u get drunk, then decrease it a bit. creep up a little bit a a time and it will get better

  4. well, there are a lot of factor that come into play when messing with alcohol. Depends on what you drink and how strong it is. You may have the same mixed drink, but it don't mean its the same strength. also i depends on what you have in your system as food. If you have been eating heavy food all week then you can withstand more alcohol. If you eat like a rabbit you aren't going to be able to handle much liquor. My idea would be for the day before and the day of try not to eat heavy foods. The alcohol will absorb faster. You have to be careful too. women tend to carry more fat so it hangs on and then pow your dancing on cloud nine. I would drink a couple of mild strength beers and then work your way up. It also depends on how fast you drink you alcohol too. If you want to get drunk fast then just drink hard liquor. I am a light weight so I just pace myself. Advice eat something heavy before you sleep or you will be sick the next morning. I don't let myself go to bed wasted.

  5. STOP DRINKING! ..... THE MORE YOU DRINK THE MORE YOU CAN DRINK ...AND BECOME A DRUNK.

h**l I SAY PARTY TILL YOU PUKE OR GET PERMANENT LIVER DAMAGE.

  6. I lower my tolerance on a regular basis so that I can save money at bars and clubs.  To do this, I do several things:

    1.  Stop drinking for a while.  This is the most disagreeable method for lowering my tolerance, since it actually involves denying myself alcohol.  Although it does work, it is not really practical for someone who wants to maintain a social life.

    2.  Lose weight.  While it does take a while, losing weight is also good for reducing one's alcohol tolerance.  I like this one, since doing it also gets me in shape and makes me more attractive.

    3.  Drink on an empty stomach.  This is quick, easy, and guaranteed to get you thoroughly wrecked.  Without food, alcohol enters your bloodstream much more quickly, making you get drunk faster and making each drink feel like it contains more alcohol.

    4.  Mix alcohol with other substances.  Once, while feeling sick, I treated myself using children's cough syrup before going out.  I have never been so drunk as I was that night.  Unfortunately, the next morning, I was also more hungover than I have ever been in my entire life.
