Question:

How to mail packages to Mexico City?

It is well know that the mail service in Mexico is corrupted, and if that is not enough my aunt lives in an apartment where the mail is left downstairs outside in one small area so every body picks up their own mail -the mail gets lost too.

I want to mail a dress to my aunt and will love to send her things more often. UPS is $100 dollars, FedEX $71.62. Priority Mail $35 dollars but they will not guarantee to deliver the mail in my aunts hands.

Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

  1. A suggestion is that it really doesn't matter what company could deliver it, it is up to you to chose how fast you want it delivered but one thing i will suggest is once you mail it to get a "tracking number" and to get a estimated day of the day when the package will arrive so you can immediately alert your aunt and she would be ready so when the mail man comes by she could be ready to receive the package and not let the package to be out in the stairs alone for a long time.

  2. It is Best to use Fed-ex or DHL...but the prices you quoted are very unreasonable.  I live in Mexico and my family has sent me packages and they were far less than that.  A dress cannot weigh much.   If she lives in a major city, she has an excellent chance of getting the package if you send it through the U.S. and then Mexican postal system.  If she lives in a remote place, forget it.  Do not bother to send it priority mail...that only means it will go fast to the border(actually to Laos Angeles since all mail to Mexico goes to Los Angeles first.)  Then when it enters the Mexican mail system it is no longer priority...no matter what the post office tells you.  It can take 2 to 5 weeks to arrive, possibly longer.  The only other idea is if you know someone traveling down to Mexico soon.  They could take the package with them and then send it by MultiPack or one of the other package services in Mexico.

Edit:  Tracking simply does not work in Mexico, but the idea the other answerer had about your aunt using another persons address is excellent...someone in a single family house that is home all day to receive it.

  3. Mail service in Mexico is not corrupted.  You are totally wrong.

I just do not understand where do you get this information !

Mail service in Mexico is slow.  Very slow. That´s it.

We have been using regular Mexican mail service for more than 30 years with no problem at all.  Just our christmas cards from the States get here in Mexico by January and March.

Just use FEDEX or DHL to send whatever you want, delivered right in her hands.    UPS sometimes is very slow.  I do not recommend UPS.

    Best to you.

  4. My suggestion is to use either FedEx or UPS and ask your aunt to get a different address. Maybe another relative or a friend she can trust to receive this package in an address that would be sure to have someone receive it.

I have the same problem here, I live far from town and mail never gets here, so I ask my neighbors that have a business in town to receive it for me in their business address and they just let me know when it got there and I just pick i up next time I'm in town or they bring it to their home and I get it there.

We have received mail directly from US mail, but once it's in the hands of Mexican mail there is no guarantee to get where it's supposed to go. So I do insist on using FedEx or UPS.
