  1. add sabut red chilis, peices of garlic ( fresh) cumin seeds and rai  add all theses to asli ghee and pour in daal . Yummy I am getting hungry now for Daal.

    Moong Dal Tadka - Yellow Split Moong Lentils (you can also use toor dal, chana dal, masoor dal...)

    Serves 4

    Ingredients:

    1 cup of split yellow moong dal

    pinch of turmeric pwd

    1 tsp minced ginger

    chopped coriander/cilantro leaves for garnish or curry leaves

    salt to taste

    For Tadka:

    1 tsp cumin seeds

    1/2 tsp mustard seeds

    7-8 curry leaves

    1 tbsp ghee or oil

    pinch of asafetida (hing)

    3-4 green chillies slit length wise

    1 tsp minced garlic

    Wash and cook the dal in 4 cups of water, turmeric powder and ginger and salt to taste until soft about 20 minutes.

    Take a saucepan and add ghee, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Now add the cumin seeds and let it brown. Add the asafetida and garlic and saute for a few seconds. Add the curry leaves and green chillis and saute till the flavors come out. Finally add the cooked dal along with the cooked dal water and salt and cook for 4-5 minutes.

    Garnish with coriander leaves.

  4. *In short, heat oil in a pan.....

    Wn its a bit warm, add some jeera/cummin and rai/mustard seeds.

    Wn the seeds splutter, add chopped garlic & ginger ; some 'hing'/asfoedita and then some chopped green or red chilles and some haldi or turmeric powder.

    Meanwhile in the daal, add some chopped tomatoes and koriander leaves/kothmir.

    Add this daal to the 'tadka' in the above pan.

    Let it boil for 2 - 3 minutes.

    add some pure ghee and close lid.

    Serve hot with parathas or steaming hot rice !!!!

    Tadka Dal Ingredients

    1 cup Lentils (lal masoor) 1/4 tsp Tumeric  

    2 cups Water  1/4 tsp Cayenne  

    1 ea Onion diced 1 tsp Cumin seed  

    2 ea Green chili chopped 1 tsp Fennel seed  

    1 ea Tomato medium, chopped 1 pinch asafoetida powder  

    2 cloves Garlic sliced 1 tblspoons Ghee  

    Salt to taste

    Instructions for Tadka Dal

    Boil lentils with onions, tomato, green chillies, garlic and turmeric powder till lentils soften and pulp. Add salt and stir well.

    In a small frying pan, make tempering by heating ghee and frying cumin seeds, fennel seeds, cayenne and asafoetida powder till it all starts to sizzle.

    Add tempering into dal and stir well.

    Serve warm over rice.

    Serves 4

    Ingredients

    Moong Dal or Masoor Dal - 1.5 cups

    Turmeric - a pinch

    Green chillies - 3 or 4 (Acc to ur spice level)

    Garlic - 2 pods (Sliced or minced)

    Coriander leaves - For garnish

    Curry leaves - For garnish

    Salt - to taste

    Lime juice - 1 - 2 tsps

    For Tadka

    Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

    Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

    Ghee - 2 tsps

    Hing - a pinch

    Method

       1. Pressure cook the Dal with Turmeric. (Take care to see that the dal is not mushy)

       2. Take a non stick vessel and add ghee, cumin seeds and mustard seeds. After the������ seeds splutter add hing.

       3. Then add the�green chillies�and garlic and fry them for a minute.

       4. Add the cooked dal and salt, fry for 4-5 minutes.

       5. Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.

       6. Add some lime juice and serve it with rotis/rice.
