How to make a Halloween costume for my kids?

I was wondering if someone has an easy and quick how to make a costume for my kids pattern. I am looking for a classic witch costume and a devil costume for my kids for Halloween. I would like to use things that I already have in my house or that are relatively inexpensive(CHEAP!) to purchase and could be reused for regular kid play after that. I am not a seamstress by far but I do have access to a sewing machine and my mom IS an excellent seamstress so I am sure she would help if needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know how to sew a little....but when I make my kids costumes I just put random things together. For your daughter.....see if you can find a black dress or a long black skirt and just cut up the bottom of it and then add a layer underneath it (just stitched in) that is maybe black tulling or a sheer fabric or even a green or purple you would only need a yard of fabric. Then go for a top that you can easily manipulate as far as cutting or what not goes. You can pick up stalkings and a hat ect. at the store. Try shopping at the thrift store or a second hand store and you could easliy pick up these items for $.50-$1 a piece. ANd then just let you imagination flow the same way for the devil costume. Look online at some pictures of costumes you like and then go piece by piece to try and recreate them.....even if the costume is one piece doesn't mean your can't be 2 or 3. One of the reasons I like doing this is becasue the costume is one of a kind not to mention you get bragging rights and it is fun. You can also get your kids involved with some of the smaller details depending on their age. Hope I helped and best of luck!

Go to Wal - Mart they have cheap patterns and cheap fabrics. Perfect for Halloween Costumes ;))))

There are lots of free costume patterns on the net. Also, if youe mom has lots of sewing experience, she can probably whip some up.
