I know my girlfriend loves blankets, and for Christmas this year I want to make her one. I want to have pictures of us on it, i want it to be warm, and i want it to be as good as i can possibly make it (for I have no experience in this).

Does anyone have a good idea on how I would go about this? It be nice to have a matching pillow too, but I care about the blanket the most. Any ideas?

Thank you very much..

  1. DUCT TAPE PILLOWS TOGETHER

  2. Here is a link for a photo quilt. Hope you have a sewing machine.

  3. I would recommend going through a website rather than doing it yourself.  try http://www.personalthrows.com/PersonalTh...

  4. i had made a blanket for my cousin for her birthday this is what to do:

buy 1 yard of a printed fleece.

buy 1 yard of a solid color fleece.

lay the two pieces of fabric together and cut 2inches in along the sides and make long rectangles along the sides then tie them together.

  5. A very simple way to make a blanket but will still require some effort so she knows you tried and put effort into it is a fleece blanket. You can by fleece by the yard at any fabric store. If you put together two pieces and cut fringe around every side, you can then tie the two pieces together with the fringe. You can also buy the instructions to make these blankets and matching pillows at any fabric store or even the crafts section of Wal-Mart.

Good Luck, sounds like a sweet idea!

  6. Are you heart set on making it because many photo labs will make one for you of any picture you bring in. They are really cute! I know meijer does them, I think walmart does also.

  7. Weird answers in some cases - a bit nasty.

Whether you can get a photograph put on the blanket material (like on a T shirt) will depend on the material of the blanket, so I think you need to go places that do the photos to fabric and see what is required - may need all cotton or have polyester in it or some other requirement to work.  For all I know at this moment people have ink jet machines that will work on fabric.

Once you find out the material requirements, you can then go to a fabric store (Joann or Hancocks in the states) and ask to see some soft warm fabrics in those materials.

It may turn out that what you have to do is buy a small piece of fabric suitable for the picture and a large piece (or just a blanket) and sew or iron on, the small piece.  There is iron on "gauze"/film available at fabric shops.

Or you may have to buy a large, but very thin sheet of suitable material, like you were going to make a t-shirt, get the image put on that, then buy a warm fleece material and quilt the two together.  If the image material that works best is thin and non-stretchy, then using it on both sides with padding in the middle and making an actual quilt is a possibility.

You might check with quilting societies/groups in your area and see if they have advice and perhaps can help with the part of the quilting that sews the layers together - much easier with a proper machine.

  8. Making blankets is pretty easy. I was in a fashion program my freshman year a few months ago, and we worked with blankets and knits. As for the pictures of you guys on it, I think you should get a big bolt of fabric at your fabric store first -Walmart - thats convenient, and go on a sowing machine or a professional cutter tool to cut it in the dimensions of your choice. Then go to a place where they do custom made photo print on your blanket, or a place where they paste the photo's on your blanket.

  9. go to the store and buy one and say you made it : )

or....... go to a fabric store and buy some fabric and thread. Get a sewing machine to sew the edges, and cotton to make it fluffy. Ask the people who work their for more help

it think there is a store called Joane's fabrics or something

  10. crochett it.

  11. Go to a fabric store like JoAnn's, Michael's or a similar store.  They have a special transfer paper that you can use to put photos onto clothing, etc.  They can give you advice on how to do it, the proper fabrics you need, the amounts you will need, and any other questions you may have.  Good Luck.  This sounds like a nice idea.  I know I would be very happy with it.

  12. If my boyfriend gave me a blanket, with a picture of us on it, that he made himself, I would think he was g*y and break up with him. Maybe you should reconsider and buy her a beautiful pair of earrings or a necklace for Christmas? Seriously, reconsider!
