How to make a career move into SAP solutions?

Hello,

I have more than 8 years in the IT industry in various support and consulting positions around implementing HelpDesk applications.

I would like to know how I can break into the SAP world and become an SAP implementation consultant asap.

What would you recommend (I'm 33)?

  1. My company tried and failed SAP, I trained to be SAP Basis Admin 75% of the courses but non of the exam!  Just in case we became too desirable to the market.

Look for jobs in Atos Origin and other major SAP consultancy companies.  Otherwise you are looking at doing the training through SAP off your own back!  Mega ££'s.  Without the training I doubt companies will employ you at a consultant level.  The SAP Solutions Manager tool is very low on consultants (as of 2 years ago at least) and is the major part of a large SAP Netweaver implementation - combining a Helpdesk application.

Be ready for LONG stints away from home and long hours!

Alternatively, look for jobs in companies known to be "doing SAP" in the future.  Insinuate your way into the project and shine.
