How to make a cold go away within a week?

I've had a type of common cold for a couple of days, since friday. I have a singing audition next wednesday and I need to be completely better by then. The symptoms of my cold are: runny nose, sore, blocked throat and I've been losing my voice and had a scratchy, coated sounding voice. I was wondering if any of you know any ways to fix my cold, other than resting?

  1. I take Cold-Eez when I get one. It's a lozenge with a really high zinc content that knocks your cold out faster. If your colds normally last about a week, the zinc lozenges will cut it back to maybe about 3-4 days. Just find something with zinc, and make sure to have lots and lots of fluids. Good luck.


  2. For me always work this two things:

    1) Buy ginger, about 300g, 2 lemons.

    2) peel the ginger and slice the lemon. Put all in the 1 litre of cold water. bring to the boil and then simmer for 20 min. Drink that when ever you feel like it.

    Don't throw the rest in the bin. Just add some more water to the ginger and lemon and repeat the process. If it's too spicey to drink for you, add honey instead of sugar.

    Always works for me.

    Oh yes, and another is hot irish whiskey :-)

  4. Cut a lemon into quarters boil it with it's skin and sweeten it with honey and drink the whole lot you'll be better within a couple of hours

    if you don't like honey sweeten it with sugar

  5. A cold is a virus which cannot be cured by anything but your body. All you can do is give your body the best chance of fighting it off. Do not take painkillers or anything that stop the symptoms as the symptoms (runny nose and cough) is how the body is gettng rid of the virus. When you blow your nose, blow it with a tissue and throw it in a bin. This saves you from respredding the cold. It is best to have a super sleep. Just rest for about three days straight. Get up to make yourself breakfast lunch and dinner and washing etc and maybe a short walk each day but for the most part remain in bed. Drink loads of lemon drinks and eat oranges and apples until they come out your ears. Drink lots of water or if water is too thin (which I find if I have a sore throat) drink tea,  as you get dehydrated when your nose runs and you tend to breath through your mouth more as your are blocked up.

    Trying to get on with things when you have a cold is okay, but it just prolongs it. The best way to fight it is to rest and sleep and eat healthily.

    Whenever I get a cold I do this and I am usually over it in about 3-4 days.

  6. Pour boiling water into a large bowl and add tea tree oil or vapo rub to the water. Then place your head over the bowl face down, and get a large towl and cover the bowl and your head with it to ensure the smoke doesn't get out. Do this for 5-10 mins or until you start to feel clearer. Remember DO NOT PUT YOUR FACE IN THE WATER its very hot! Just breathe the smoke from the water.

    avoid staying up late at night, if possible..

    drink LOTS and LOTS of water..  =D

    (this helped me a lot when i was sick)
