Can anyone tell me or teach me how to create my own cross stitch pattern without using the aid of a computer? Just paper and pencils? I have my own artwork Id like to use for a big project.

  1. What you could do is make a grid pattern over the top of your artwork (or right on top of a copy of it), then take a separate piece of regular math graph paper and color in the squares accordingly.

    Hope that helps!

  2. trace or draw your picture onto graph paper.  You will need to find graph paper with a close "squares per inch" to your aida cloth as you can so the image doesn't come out distorted. Also I have heard of a plastic "sheet" that you can overlay on a picture that gives you the "Graph" to do the counted cross stitch but I haven't been able to find one.
