How to make a diaper cake?

Question

One of my friends is having a baby. I love those diaper cakes, but can't justify spending so much money for diapers (I am a poor grad student). Anyways, I figured that I could probably make one? Do you have directions or steps for doing so? I am not sure how they get the diapers to stay together without ruining them? Is there some sort of frame or is it all diapers? Maybe giant rubberbands then cover with ribbon?

looks pretty easy just tie around them and then put the pretty ribbon around them, u dont have to make them stick together

If you don't want to spend a lot of money on diapers and you just want the cake for 'decoration' purposes, then buy the diapers at the Dollar Store ..

If you plan on buying diapers that the mother will use, then go with Huggies Newborn; they have the cut-outs for the umbilical cord stump, that is all I used on my son until his cord stump fell off ..

They are such a big hit at showers! Buy genetic diapers when the store is having a sale and you'll save some money on diapers.

They're beautiful, but don't make them with cheap diapers. My sister in law got one, and used a couple of the diapers before realizing they were so cheap they leak. She never used the rest, so it was a waste of the gift giver's money!  Your better off getting a case of  Pampers or Huggies diapers at Baby's R Us for $35.00.
