How to make a dress?

Question

I have a couple ideas for dress designs but i cant seem to find the types of dresses anywhere so i was going to make them myself. I dont have a lot of knowledge in the sewing department so what would i have to do ?

I guess design it - can i buy templates?

Then buy the material

and then just sew?

If you dont knw how to sew than making dress will just make u disspaointed, yes ull be proud but u really have to study the types of ways to sew, lets say u get a dress pattern, do u know what seams mean, different stitches. you have to understand the words, i studied and im still finding it hard to make dresses, i still havent go it right, and u have to use lining, or sometimes interfacing, if you dont know  them then dont waste ur money, material costs alot, so only do it if u really know.

If you buy a template it usualy tells you the difficulty of the sewing process. Taking apart an old peice of clothing does work but acount for all the excess material you need like for tucking.

Google sewing patterns.  There are loads and loads of patterns out there which may be what you are after.  These are fair easier than trying to start from scratch if you've never made anything before.  Alternatively if you already have an item of clothing which is simialr to what you want to make carefully take it apart (so you cna put it back together) and use that as a pattern.
