How to make a fabric headboard?

I'm redoing my daughters room..she wants a new bed but I would like to keep her old twin iron bed for sentimental reason..it was my moms and mine! Is there anyway I can add fabric over the existing iron frame to make a new headboard?

Drill holes into plywood and use strong to attach to head board, use foam and batting then your fabric

Use a staple gun and plywood, make sure you use a thick fabric in between the fabric and plywood

Can you make a slip cover to put over it?  You can wrap the existing iron headboard with batting secured with duct tape for comfort and then sew a slip cover with an opening at the bottom which would be hidden by the pillows to put over that.  If you are not a sewer, you can also construct one using washable fabric glue (Aileen's makes one).
