How to make a gilera smt quicker?

Question

Hi i have a 50cc gilera smt, derestricted but it only hits 45mph when other scooters can hit 50+. I want to improve the engine and others to make it run quicker and faster. Could you please send me links for websites which have the products i need.

Kind of preachy answer by the first bloke. He is not factually incorrect and his warnings about insurance companies is sound but I don't believe you were asking for guidance on the rights or wrong of what you want.

There are a number of things that can be done to a two stroke to make the engine perform better but it is also incredibly easy to s***w it up if you don;t know what you are doing.

If there is a properly designed after market exhaust for the bike then that may well help it breathe freer. Be careful though as two stroke exhaust design is very critical and sticking any old pipe on can easily make it worse. New pipes are also pricey. A larger size carburettor will help release a bit more oomph but agin getting a new one will cost a bit and you will need to set it up properly.

If all you are interested in is top speed then changing the size of the sprockets will give you more top end but at the expense of accelaration. Dropping a tooth on the rear sprocket will have an effect.

There is also the issue here that you are talking about a small capacity engine and the biggest killer to that is weight. If you are a big lad/lass then you are wasting your time, lose weight. If not then also consider the comparitive weight of your bike against a scooter.

In all honesty and practicality there is not a whole lot that would make much financial or practical sense.

MY SMT GOES OFF THE CLOCKS AS YOU WOULD KNOW THE CLOCKS STOP AT 50MPH . AND THATS IN FORTH GEAR . IVE GOT A MK 70CC BORE .. MK RACE EXUAST .. AND A 25 OR 26 MM DELORTO CARB BUT MAKE SURE U GET IT JETTED PROPARLY !! .. O AND SOME BETTER CLUTCH SPRINGS, AND A BIGGER BACK SPROKET OR FRONT SPROKET CANT REMEMBER  . I AINT SAYIN IT GOES 120MPH LIKE ALL THESE OTHER KIDS DO BUT ITL DO 65MPH WITHOUT SCREAMING THE NUTS OFF IT .

DONT GO TO A SHOP TO GET IT DONE THOUGH THEY CHARGE TOO MUCH .. SEARCH THEM PARTS ON THE INTERNET BUT I RECOMEND USING THEM PARTS LISTED . OR IF YOUW ANT EVEN BETTER THAN THAT GET THE MALOSSI MHR 80 BORE ! HOPE THATS ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION ..

some mopeds are quicker drawing away some faster at top end just enjoy your bike and get some experience then go for a bigger bike remember it's only a 50cc you could spend a few pounds doing it up big bore kit etc etc enjoy let them pass you when there's blow up you'll be smiling last

If you are using under 16 and using it de restricted on a provisional licence you are breaking the law, also if you haven't notified your insurance company about the modifications your insurance will be void in the event of a claim.

You would be much better off buying something with a bigger, more powerful engine when you are old enough.

Also most speedos are set to read approx 10% higher than your actually doing so a speedo that reads 50 would actually be only 45.

It'll go faster if you push it off a cliff.  It's a 50cc moped, what do you expect? Put your time in, learn to ride properly and when you're ready buy something bigger and faster.
