  1. what are u even doin with a horse it has to have years of training to be taut to lye dwn and if u use a rope well someone should call animal cruelty on u get on a chair for god sake

  2. you can do it just with your reins but I dont suggest it, its only for very experienced horsemen and its usually done for behavioral problems, can I ask why you would want to do this? Is it for lowering the horses body to make it easier to get on, if so teach the kneel or bow . Otherwise leave laying down a horse to someone who  is very experienced in doing it. Ive been in horses for 30 years and have only had to do it to 2 horses that were so aggressive and dangerous. You also have to know how much pressure to use when to let up and once down how to keep them down. I would just seek other kinds of training.

  3. it is practically impossiable to get a horse to lay down  it takes alot of training   try getting on from a chair or gate of something like that.....a horse is not a camel and wont lay down for you to get on

  4. Does your horse already lay down with you around, and can you approach him while he's laying down and he stays there? If not, you should not be teaching him to lay down. If he won't lay down or stay down with you around, he does not trust you enough, and he will not lay down FOR you! But if he does let you approach him while he's down and does lay down while you're near him, you have his permission to teach him to lay down on cue. The way I like best is to get the horse completely wet, and bring him into an arena with deep sand, or somewhere that encourages him to roll. He'll want to roll (he's wet and in a big area, horses REALLY want to roll!) and right before he lays down, you start pawing with your foot and then sit down as he goes down. Mirror him. Do this every day possible for a while. It doesn't happen overnight, but I know a person who taught her horses like this, and now she just has to tap the dirt with her foot and her horse lays down, no halter, lines, anything.

And you'd be surprised how, even though horses probably don't understand words, they can see the difference between you wanting to MAKE him lay down, and you wanting to ASK him to lay down. ;-)

  5. My husband & I have always laid down our horses we raise. as a part of their training. He has laid several down for clients. Horses are  prey animals & it is their nature to flee at the sign of a threat. This creates a trust with you & your horse when you do this. They look for you for protection. You do need a saddle & a good rope to dally up on your horn. You have to know what your doing when you do this or you can get hurt. They sometimes jump on you to get them out of the bind their in. So you never want to stand in front of them....This can be very dangerous with some horses. Some will really fight it. Then there are some that give in in just a few minutes. You do want to tie your stirrups up or better yet take them off.  Please be careful whatever you decide to do.

  6. I am not too sure why you want your horse to lay down.

I have a rogue horse and I learned to lay him down to overcome his trust issues.

Here is a website and video that teaches you how to do it.

  7. i taught my horse how to bow, lay and sit. fo the bowing and laying i picked up one of his front legs and stretched it out infront of him and then i would tug on his lead in a downwrd fashion.... eventually he will bow, then you just go a step further and lay him down.... mind you it took about 6 months for all 3 tricks. so be patient!
