  1. goup to him VERY slowing. when u get to him say "it's ok boy" and make sure everytime u go up to him u give him a treat and he should get to like u if u have treats and be very slow around him

  2. The other answer are all quite good, but you must remember a few things:

Treats can create bad habits. A relationship based on food doesn't really work. It needs to be on trust and comfort, and I personally don't feel food is the answer. It's just them training us.

Personality conflicts do exist. I've seen it happen, and most of the time it's through no fault of the person. If you really feel that the horse just isn't going to work with you, talk to your trainer and see about another horse for lessons. There's no point in trying to ride a horse that isn't going to help you learn.

    Good luck!

  3. take a treat each time you go. half an apple or a carrot will work great. After a few times of getting a treat each time he sees you he will start to like you also talk to him with a soft whisper close to him

  4. make a noise like oats.....

  5. If you go and see him, make sure you are calm, yet confident around that horse. If he backs away from you, that's okay you should just leave it that day. However, if you ignore horses they get interested in you. If you sat down in the corner of the stable where he can see you he would probably like you!

  6. be gentle around him and give him plenty of treats. Plus, BE RELAXED!! i have had so many people ask me why thier horse is acting up and then i see how the act- tence. the horse will feed off of your emotions. if you are nervious about him- he'll be nervious about you. if you are calm and collected he will be too

  7. If possible, spend some time on the ground with him. Groom him, talk to him in a calm soothing voice, give him treats, let him sniff you, build his trust. This will help you immensly under saddle.

If he is acting up under saddle, it may be you haven't learned enough to ride him differently than other horses you have ridden. Each horse likes to be ridden differently. Make sure you are not pulling back on his mouth too hard. I know a lot of inexperienced riders tend to use their hands for support when they get nervous. This will cause the horse to act up for sure. When you are on him, relax. If he knows you are relaxed, he will relax. Be firm in your commands (voice and leg). Don't let him get away with things, this just makes it worse for anyone who has to ride him, whether you or someone else.

I often end up having to ride horses that have problems with other riders. However, I am often able to get them to do the thing that other people can't, or have a hard time. I wish I knew how I did this so I could help you better. I know when I am grooming the horse, I am talking to it so it knows my voice. When I am on it, I don't let it get away with things. That horse is going where I tell it to at the speed I tell it to, whether it likes it or not. I rarely have to use a crop. I am just firm in my commands (voice and leg). Say if the horse doesn't want to bend around a circle, I will make it go in a very small circle. I make it uncomfortable not to do what I want. (No, I don't hurt it, but I make it unpleasant).

Good luck! It's no fun to ride a horse who doesn't like you!

  8. I had this problem a lot when i first started horseback ridding and sometimes I still do. What I do is spend as much time with the horse as I can. Also I would always ask to ride the horse so I can get used to the horse and the horse can get use to me. One more thing is that I show the horse who is  the boss. He can't control me, I control him. Ohh, and never act scared or anything, sometimes horse can know.  ;)

Hope this helps, it always helps me! :)

  9. I would win his trust towards you by giving him treats when he is good. He is probally excited about stuff. Try to be as friendly as possible at him and make him feel confortable around you.

I personally would get another horse to ride because this horse is not for you as he feels "scared" around you. Try a different horse and try him or her out and see if that horse is good enough for you in different disiplines such as jumping, dressage, trail etc...

I hope you can find the right horse for you and don't let him be scared around you. You can get a professional help but at a costly price. But try to be opimistic about the future!

    Good luck!

  10. Spend extra quality time with him.  Brush him, pet him, feed him some horse treats, etc.  The more time you spend with the horse besides riding will help you bond with the horse.

  11. take it for aride on the country side and feed him

  12. Building a relationship with a horse is dependent on 2 important things:

1st - Spend as much time as you can grooming and caring for the horse, thinking about how much you care, and say it often. Horse's are very receptive to your emotional state and your thoughts!

2nd - You have to discipline the horse and let him know that you are the head horse indefinitely! Don't let him get away with acting up let him know your not having that. Also make sure your tack is proper, bits that don't cause pain, saddles with the proper tree size, and learn to ride loose in the reins allowing your weight distribution and leg to give commands, don't cause pain and discomfort in the mouth by trying to control with the reins.

Don't take lessons and support owners and trainers that are mean and intimidate the horse with fear, that is a kick in the head waiting to happen!!!
