How to make a jumper dress that's too big look good?

So I've got this grey jumper dress (with a pattern down the middle) which is about two sizes too big and which I like quite a lot but it doesn't look very good. It finishes a few inches above the knee, has short sleaves and it doesn't look good with a belt. It's also very thick. How can I make it look like it should be too big, thick, and still make it look nice? I've been wearing it with ballet flats and a tight long sleeved top underneath.

I have a dress like that and i usually wear tights and boots or waistcoats over it. Probably a denim waiscoat.
