How to make a memory quilt? steps and materials please

my grandparents recently passed away and i wanted to make a memory quilt with there clothes i was wondering if anyone had a website or can tell me how to make quilt and what materials are needed

  1. There are two kinds of memory quilts - those that use fabrics from clothing that has special meaning, and those that have photos on the quilt. You could combine the two, if you'd like. If you're just going to do the clothing, you can do any type of quilt you like. As a beginning quilter, you'd probably want to stick to a fairly simple pattern. Try a Rail Fence block - here are instructions:

    You could also do a Chinese Coins quilt - there are dozens of variations:

    Along the same lines, you could do a string quilt. This is a foundation pieced block, which means you sew the strips of fabric to a foundation, usually muslin or paper. If you use paper, you rip it out later (muslin is easier!). It's an excellent beginner project because you trim the squares to size after you sew them. Here are some instructions:

    As for supplies, a rotary cutter, cutting mat, and ruler are worth the cost. They'll make cutting strips so much easier. If you have a JoAnn Fabrics store near you, watch for their quilting stuff to go on sale.
