How to make a noose dog trap?

Question

neighbours dogs are killing everything and ranger has told me to catch the dogs. I don't have $200 to buy a trap so need to make my own. Any ideas? diagrams would be good. don't want to kill the dogs with it just hold them till I get out there.

These two sites show you how to make simple human traps that you could modify depending on the size of the dogs. You might make a noose trap that would be safe using something along the line of a choker chain that would loosen when the dog quit pulling, but still hold him. But most homemade noose traps would keep tightening until it choked the dog to death.

Most humane society places have live hav-a - heart traps they will loan you. Also don't you have a do catcher in your town.

you dont ever use a nuese trap for any animal, as the animal struggles to get away it panics and can strangle itself you dont do that to any animal how would you feel with something like that around your neck, please think before you ask a question like this.  and if you are having such get the help of the humane society, or better yet put a fence around your property.  I'm advising you dont do this it's animal cruelty and you will go to jail and have to pay a fine. dont be stupid.

You're probably better off with a camera or camera trap as a lot of the noose dead-fall traps will kill or maim and that may cause a legal situation to be avoided. Ideally the dead-fall uses a large slip noose (thin wire that cuts deep) that is tripped by a loaded bait placed in the center (I learned a lot about rigging when I leaned my trade, mine field clearing and arrangement is part of that as well as survival). When the bait is disturbed the dead-fall weight pulls the noose tight but it will tighten generally on the neck and if you try to put a "stop" on overtightening you will loose the prey if it trips on a paw. Have-a-heart styles become increasingly ineffective with size but as mentioned, I guess the are available to rent. Do not fall to the temptation to use poison as you will kill a lot of animals for just some poorly trained dog but you could camp out with a pot of beef stew cooking all night and make a friend, then leash them and call the dog police. Whole lot of ideas but go for the camera or video as you will get good evidence that flies well in court and they trip easier than a dead fall.

Here are some sites that show you how to make some noose traps. Most won't be lethal if you get to them pretty fast. I don't blame you for not worrying too much about the dog if it is killing your livestock and especially if you have already warned the owner and he has done nothing about it. Around here that would probably bring out the shotguns. Hope you get the dog/dogs. We used to raise sheep and I don't have much sympathy for livestock killing dogs. They don't even kill for the food, just for the fun of the kill.

You may be able to bring charges against the dogs owner as well. I would look into it.
