If you put a straight magnet inside a donut shaped magnet, would the straight magnet spin? this is assuming the donut piece is stationary and the straight piece of dangling inside the donut shaped one

  1. 1st of all, i've never seen a donut shaped magnet.

    If it did exist, then the North pole of the bar magnet would be attracted to the South pole of the donut magnet, and vice versa.

    So, the bar magnet would only rotate until the opposite poles are lined up.

  2. It will not spin. That would make it a perpetual motion machine.

    Any magnet has a N pole and a S pole, and the straight magnet will rotate until the poles lined up and stop.

    .

  3. the easiest way of making a magnet rotate is...

    firstly, you put your first magnet on top of  a table, you then put your second magnet under the table and you spin it around!

    its a cool trick :)

    LOL....=P

  4. that is a really good question! i think the straight piece will rotate as it's bound to repel off parts of the doughnut shape one.
