How to make an ecosystem?

For Biology class, we need to make our own ecosystems that has one main animal that must live for 8 weeks. Nothing else has to last for 8 weeks. The ecosystem will be held in a tiny container about 1' x 1' x 6" and will be completely sealed so that no air or animals may go in or out. We are not allowed to meddle with our ecosystem once it is turned it.

What would be a good main animal to put in my ecostystem? It has to live 8 weeks and preferable a herbivore or even a scavenger. The ecosystem can be aquatic or land based.

  1. I would say an aquatic ecosystem would be easiest.  Go to a pond near your house and get tadpoles as your main animal.  then be sure to get an aquatic plant that you find growing and some algea for the tadpoles to eat.  (At least that is what I think they eat)

To do a land based ecosystem, you could use crickets.  Just do some research and find out what plants crickets eat.

Just make SURE you put some sort of plant in there, otherwise there will be no oxygen and your animal will die
