Question:

How to make an iud ineffective

I have an iud and I want to get pregnant. It is the Paragard Copper IUD. I know, I know, I should just get it removed but that is not an option right now. I know many of you will judge me for this, but please if anyone has the answer please share it.

  1. You have to get it taken out!  If you get pregnant, it has to be removed during the pregnancy.  Sometimes that is done without issue, but often the removal can tear the amniotic sac, and you lose your baby.  Is that worth the risk?  Why can't you get it taken out right now?

  2. There is no way to make it 'ineffective.'  If you want to get pregnant, have it removed.  I'm not clear on why it would not be possible -- just see your doctor. It takes about 5 seconds for her to remove it.

(And .. while I DON'T recommend doing it ... it's possible to remove it yourself.)

EDIT:  The 'legit' reason to have it removed is that you want to have a baby.  And if he doesn't ... well, this is something you need to discuss with him.  If he really wants to wait a year, it's not that big a deal. [I'm assuming that you aren't ove 40 years old...].  He cannot keep you from getting it removed if that is your wish, but if you DID get it removed without telling him, and got pregnant -- expect to be a single mother.

  3. Yes, there is no way to stop it working without having it removed. Over the years they have made these things so effective that there's no other alternative than removal. Sorry and good luck!

  4. Tell him your AF is starting to become very irregular or that your are having pains from it.

FYI your not a bad person, I did the same thing we are in our 4 month of TTC

  5. If you want to get pregnant the only option is to have it removed....

  6. Don't you think it would be better to have an honest conversation with your husband about your plans and goals, instead of trying to trick him into having a baby when he has already told you he wants to wait a year? You are courting trouble. Talk to him, agree on a timeline that you both can live with.
