  1. Step1Fill a cookie sheet or a shallow baking tray with water. Place the pet food bowl into the middle of the tray, away from the edges. Keep the cookie sheet full of water, since the ants will be back.

Step2Wash the area where your pet bowl is with soapy water every day. This helps wash away the ant trails, making it harder for the ants to find your pet's food.

Step3Place a physical barrier around the pet's food. Try drawing a line of chalk around the pet's bowl to keep ants out. You can also place coffee grinds or salt around the pet's food to repel the insects.

Step4Purchase a special pet bowl designed to keep ants out. You can purchase these bowls at pet supply stores.

Step5Put some herbs around your pet's bowl. Cinnamon (without sugar), bay leaves, mint or rosemary leaves all work well and are safe to have around your pet.

  2. Get a good slow release pyrethrin product in granule form, spread around where the ants are, rain or water from a garden hose activates the product and will keep it working for months. In Florida you sometimes get Fireants, normal antkillers dont work on them, you will need a product specifically for them, treat the mounds individually or get an area treatment.

  3. Use ant traps or if you want a homemade trick wipe it with vinegar. The traps might take a few days to start working. Hope I helped! :)
