How to make aquarium filter in home?

PLEASE DON'T GIVE LINKS.Tell your answers here itself.I need a simple home made filter for my 16 gallon aquarium using simple household items.

there are two types of filter to make: sponge filter or undergravel filter.

I assume that you don't have a sponge, pvc tube etc to make the sponge filter.

To make an easy undergravel filter you need:

-a bowl

-a funnel (cut the top part of a sode bottle)

-air tubing

-gravel

ok? you're prepared?

-take your bowl and place a small layer of gravel on it.

place one end of the airtube in the middle of the  bowl and place the funnel on it.

-add more gravel to the bowl until the funnel is almost covered with gravel

-gently place the bowl in your aquarium and turn on the air pump
