  1. Amy S is referring to Speedi Beet, proper sugar beet requires 24 hour soaking.

It really doesn't matter what temperature the water is, with Speedi-beet it will soak faster with hot water. So long as it's not too hot for your horse to eat when you feed it, use hot or cold.

ADD: ARGH NO!!!!! You HAVE to soak it. It swells in the stomach and can kill the horse because of the gases it gives off when swelling. It can cause the stomach to rupture. Juliane normally has very good advice but this comment is WAY off the mark.

  2. if it is the shredded beat pulp the hot water will allow the beet pulp to expand almost immediately... the cold water takes longer.. if the beet pulp is the pellet form then using cold water will take a few hours to expand the hot will let it expand quicker.. that is the only real difference between using hot and cold.

  3. It doesn't matter.  But did you know you don't even really have to soak it?  It's a myth.  You can feed it dry, I do it all the time with no problems.  It makes my life a LOT easier to not have to worry about soaking feeds so I thought I'd share.

  4. Dont know the exact time but I let mine soak over night.

  5. I'm in the Uk where we use it all the time. I always mix it with cold water and soak it overnight

Edit> Speedi beet (TM) is the 10 minute soak stuff ( my horses won't touch it)

  6. Hot water makes it ''puff up'' faster, but cold will do the same...just it'll take a little longer.  I have always used hot water for mine when I'm feeding it, but that's just me!

  7. It doesn't matter. You have to let it soak for at least 10 minutes, so by the time you feed it, it will be room temp anyway.
