  1. Yeah generally brain response or reflexes are quickened by training them in specific tests regularly.  In this case you'll need to use a bit of cognitive behavioural therapy.

Basically, run over in your head the habit of pausing for thought each time you hear something new.  Imagine people asking you something and exactly what you would feel like when you will think harder about it.  Keep practicing in your head and most importantly, for the first while, anticipate real life scenarios arising BEFORE they do and prepare yourself to pause for thought.  Even do this in situations that won't necessarily appear risky.

Eventually if you keep this or any other behaviour up you'll develop a habit.  I did much the same thing when I was younger to prevent myself losing my temper and it worked.  I later found out that psychologists call it cognitive behavioural therapy and it's the most effective treatment for many things like this.

    Good luck with it.

PS:  Of course do give some consideration to the possibility that the problem may not be as bad as you think.  You didn't give any details though so I'm not saying it is or isn't.  It'd just be unfortunate if you were trying to achieve a level of perception that is above and beyond what is possible because that would just stress you out.  But if it is a reasonable concern then I wish you all the best.  :o)
