First, get a piece of dowel (a long, smooth, cylyndrical wooden shaft, a broomstick will do, but look for something thinner.) and drill a hole in one end. Feed a long length of wire (Whatever kind of metal you want your armour to be) through the hole, and secure it so that it wont come out of the hole if you pull it a bit. Proceed to wrap the wire around the dowel, making sure that it spirals, like a spring. The more copact/tightly it is wound, the better.

Remove the "wire spring" you have made, and use wire cutters to cut a line right down the "spring". You should be left with several, small "Rings" with holes in them.

These will be the links of chain in your mail. Beging to loop them through each other, and close the gaps in the links by clamping down on them, where nessisary.

Weaving can be difficult; I get a picture of "chainmail" pattern, and I follow/copy that. It will take a while, but after a few days you should be able to make a vest, or a head cover.

OF course, eBay is cheaper, and far easier. Chainmail CAN be avaiable for cheap, especially for online replica weapon stores.
